Man killed after boat capsized on Loch Awe was set to be a father

The family of a man who died after his boat capsized on Loch Awe have revealed he was set to become a father.

Kieran Cowan, 23, was one of three men in the boat when it capsized near Inishail Island on Saturday.

Mr Cowan's family, from Prestonpans, East Lothian, confirmed "the sad loss of our beloved son and brother" as police said a body had been recovered from the water.

The other men on the boat, aged 23 and 27, were able to swim to safety.

They were rescued on a nearby island and taken to Lorn and Islands Hospital in Oban before being discharged.

The Cowan family issued a statement saying: "Kieran was elated and looking forward to welcoming a baby daughter later this year with his partner Lisa Reid.

"We are overwhelmed by the love and support from family, friends and the local communities in both Prestonpans and Oban.

"We ask that people respect our privacy at this difficult time and allow us time to grieve."

Officers from Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency were involved in the search for Mr Cowan.

A joint Police Scotland and Marine Accident Investigation Branch inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
