Dungiven: Man in court over New IRA pub threats
A man has been remanded in custody accused of making threats under the name of the New IRA.
Dermot Burke, 58, of Drum Road, Dungiven, County Londonderry, appeared at Antrim Magistrates' Court on three charges.
They include membership of a proscribed organisation, namely the IRA.
He is also accused of having a gun with intent to cause a person to fear unlawful violence would be used against them, and an iron bar.
It follows several incidents in Dungiven, last Friday when masked men allegedly entered St Canice's GAA club and public houses in the town and issued threats.
About 100 children and their parents were in the clubhouse at the time for an underage presentation.
A police officer said he believed he could connect the accused to the charges.
There was no application for bail and the defendant was remanded in custody until 5 February.
