Dublin riot: Micheál Martin says 'this is not who we are'

The rioting and violence seen in Dublin city centre is "not reflective" of Irish society, the tánaiste (Irish deputy prime minister) has said.

Micheál Martin spoke before a meeting of the British-Irish Council, being held in the Irish capital on Friday morning.

Irish police said 34 arrests had been made after 13 shops and 11 police cars were damaged during the violence on Thursday.

One police officer was seriously injured.

The riot followed a stabbing outside a school in which three children and an adult were injured.
