Castlewellan: Marc Garry Quinn dies after being struck by a car

Marc Garry Quinn died in hospital

A man who died after being struck by a car in Castlewellan, County Down was 18-year-old Marc Garry Quinn.

He was from the Castlewellan area.

Police said they received a report about the incident on the Newcastle Road at about 01:30 GMT on Sunday. Mr Quinn was treated at the scene and taken to hospital where he later died.

Police have appealed for information in relation to the incident and urged anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

The SDLP assembly member for the area Colin McGrath, expressed his condolences to the Quinn family and to the teenager's friends.

"It is never easy to lose a loved one but particularly in such difficult circumstances, at such a young age, is particularly tragic and will come as a shock to the entire community," he said.

GAA club Auglisnafin paid tribute to Mr Quinn, with the club saying he was an "extremely talented and committed footballer" who was "extremely well thought of both within our club and whereever he went".
