Zombies sought in York for slice-of-life satire film

The "everyday lives of zombies" are to be followed in a mockumentary film being made in York.

Jacob Bentley-Green, who is studying at York St John University, said the film would follow zombies who "didn't actually want to hurt anyone".

He is crowd-funding to pay would-be zombies to appear in Dead Men Tell Tall Tales, part of the final project for his Masters degree.

Mr Bentley-Green said the film would be a "satire with some social commentary".

The film-maker said the project aimed to be a "satirical, but sincere mirror to the issues of our day".

He told BBC Radio York: "I was thinking, what if you were a zombie and you came back and you just didn't actually want to hurt anyone?

"What if you just wanted to go on shambling about your daily business?"

He said the film was inspired by classic Aardman animation Creature Comforts, with "improvisational vignettes of colourful characters" - but it had a more serious side.

"It's a satire with some social commentary along with the shambling zombies and aims to explore themes of neurodivergence and queer rights", he said.

The project would show the "horror of mundane modern life through the unfiltered thoughts of the characters within it", he said.

Filming for the project is intended to begin at the end of May.
