Injured sheep put down after Stokeseley dog attack

A sheep had to be put down after it was left seriously injured in a suspected dog attack in North Yorkshire.

The sheep suffered deep puncture wounds and broken neck bones in the incident in Stokesley, police said.

The attack, in a field by the River Leven where the A172 joins Thirsk Road, was thought to have taken place between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information about what happened was asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.

Officers said they particularly wanted to hear from anyone who saw a dog walker in the field during the period the attack was thought to have taken place.
