Five people were rescued by fire crews after their vehicles became stuck in flood water in North Yorkshire.

Four vehicles - two cars, a van and and HGV - had become trapped on the A684 between Leeming Bar and Northallerton at Morton on Swale early on Monday.

A fire service spokesperson said they received reports of the initial stricken vehicle just before 05:00 GMT.

Specialist crews from Richmond and Ripon were called to help extricate the motorists, they added.

The fire service spokesperson said the council had been contacted to put in place a road closure.

There are currently eight Environment Agency flood warnings in place in the county in the aftermath of the amber weather warning associated with Storm Isha.

That means people should be prepared for flooding to take place.

There are also 25 flood alerts in North Yorkshire, which means flooding is possible.
