Alnwick waste centre shuts after fire at transfer station
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service A waste centre shut for the day after a fire broke out at a facility next to it.
The fire service was called to the waste transfer station, next to the Household Waste Recovery Centre, on the Lionheart Enterprise Park in Alnwick on Tuesday.
Four fire engines, an aerial ladder platform (ALP), and a drone were sent to the scene.
People were advised to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed.
The fire happened just before 08:00 GMT.
A spokesperson from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said they scaled back the operation at 12.32 GMT.
They said: "The access road to the industrial estate is now open, although the centre is shut for the rest of the day."
The fire service thanked the public for their support and cooperation and added the last appliance had left at around 15:30 GMT.
