Tyne Tunnel users warned of payment disruption on Saturday
Website, app and telephone payments will be unavailable for Tyne Tunnel users on Saturday, while the system is updated to include new payment options.
Tunnel operator TT2 says Apple Pay and Google Pay are being introduced in response to customer feedback.
Tunnel users can use cash or cards at PayPoints in shops on 11 November.
There will also be an extended payment window running until 23:59 GMT on Tuesday 14 November for anyone wishing to use their usual payment method.
TT2's chief executive officer, Adrian Wallace, apologised for the inconvenience and encouraged people to pay for journeys in advance if possible.
"Our customers told us they want Apple Pay and Google Pay so we are delivering. We hope these changes will bring long-term benefits for our customers.
"If you are a pre-paid account holder, please ensure you have sufficient funds to cover all of your journeys, as you will not be able to top-up during this period.
"The toll will be deducted but it will take slightly longer than usual to appear on your account."
Following the upgrade, pre-pay customers who use the auto top-up feature will need to reinstate their card details on their account.
TT2 said it was contacting customers directly with information on how to do this.
Last week it was reported drivers using the tunnel might soon have to pay up to 40p more each way to help the transport system "break even".
It follows an increase in tunnel charges earlier this year, pegged to inflated energy costs and debts following delays to the construction of a second tunnel.
The tunnel connects North and South Tyneside.
