Sycamore Gap tree cut up and removed from Hadrian's Wall site

The 50-foot sycamore tree had stood in its spot, framed by two hills along Hadrian's Wall, since the late 1800s.

Two weeks after the famous tree was felled, the timber has now been taken away in a complicated operation.

Workers using chainsaws cut back its branches and the crane was moved into position to hoist it away.

"This is one of the most iconic landmarks within Northumberland National Park, which is going to change forever," said Tony Gates, CEO of Northumberland National Park Association.

People were urged to stay away from the landmark while it was being removed.
