Hailsham: Tributes paid as hit-and-run victim named as Jack Field
A 24-year-old man who was killed in a hit-and run crash as he walked in Hailsham has been named as Jack Field.
He was hit by a car in Diplocks Walk, off Western Road, at about 23:00 GMT on Saturday, and died at the scene.
His family described him as "the most selfless, respectful gentleman who would do anything for anyone and always putting others before himself".
Two men - a 32-year-old from Horam, East Sussex, and a 26-year-old, of no fixed address - have been arrested.
They are being questioned on suspicion of murder, Sussex Police said.
In a statement issued through Sussex Police, Mr Field's family said: "Jack was a loving son, brother and friend.
"He was everyone's best friend, role model and hero.
"He will never be able to be replaced and has left a gaping hole which will never be filled but we will hold him in our hearts forever."
Det Ch Insp Alex Campbell said: "We are continuing to work tirelessly to understand the exact circumstances of this incident and provide answers for Jack and his family.
"We are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or events leading up to it, or anyone with pictures or footage that could help, to contact police."
