Bramford to get new BMX track made by London 2012 Olympics builders

A Suffolk village will get a new BMX run made by London 2012 Olympics builders, a councillor said.

Bramford Parish Council approved £90,000 funding for the project which is expected to be completed by early summer 2024.

A group of teenagers made a petition for the track, which stated that the current space was "old, bumpy and ruined".

Track user Harry, 13, said he felt "quite happy" by the result.

Harry and his friends made the petition which called for a "new and improved bike track for children and adults of all ages".

The group gained more than 300 signatures from residents and presented them to the parish council in October.

Council chairman, councillor Lester Powell, said the new track was "one of many new initiatives" for village residents, that the local authority had supported.

"It's going to be constructed by one of the leading contractors in the country," he said.

"They built the BMX venue for the London Olympics and the European Championships in Glasgow. Bramford will have one of the best pump tracks in the whole county."

Harry's mum, Amy said: "Thankfully, the parish council have been super generous in offering that donation to cover the funding."

She hoped the new track would encourage children to get out in all weather and added: "It would be a harder surface. It would be tarmac, so it would be good for all year round."

Toni Stollery, whose son uses the current track, said: "[I am] sort of surprised but the parish council is wonderful and they really support the village in requests. They really want to look after the teens."
