Cheshire East Council is to pay its new stand-in boss £1,200 a day.

David Parr's appointment as the local authority's interim chief executive is expected to be approved on 18 October.

He would take up the role when current chief executive Lorraine O'Donnell leaves later this month.

Mr Parr has been chief executive at three councils, including the former Macclesfield Borough Council, which was replaced by the Cheshire East unitary authority in 2009.

As interim chief executive, he is expected to work the equivalent of three days a week, and agency fees mean the cost to Cheshire East Council will actually be £1,380 a day plus VAT.

"The cost would be in the region of £91,000 if the appointment ran from mid-October 2023 to March 31 2024," a council report said.

"This means that the cost can be met from the existing budget for the post of chief executive."

Cheshire East Council is currently recruiting for a permanent boss who will be on a salary of between £170,000 and £190,000 a year.

Mr Parr's interim leadership would help the council seize new opportunities and meet the challenges ahead, Labour council leader Sam Corcoran said.
