'Yappy ending' for bulldogs stolen from Burton

Dogs have been handed back to "one happy owner", police say

Eight stolen dogs discovered by police in a vehicle on the M1 have been reunited with their owner.

The bulldogs were taken from kennels in a break-in at an address in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, at about 22:15 BST on Monday.

Within 45 minutes, Derbyshire Police had found them after stopping a vehicle at junction 30 of the motorway. Five people have been arrested.

The force said on Twitter it liked a "yappy ending".

Four American bulldogs and four French bulldogs were taken, which police described as "high value" animals.

A 22-year-old man of no fixed address has been held on suspicion of burglary.

Three men from South Yorkshire, aged 31, 32 and 40, and a 29-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of theft.

The Derbyshire force said it was alerted to the break-in on Derby Road, Burton, by Staffordshire Police colleagues.

A spokesman added a Silver Citroen reported as being involved was seen at South Normanton, Derbyshire, on the A38 before joining the M1 northbound.
