Sheffield KFC given permission to open overnight
A city centre KFC has been granted permission to remain open overnight, after striking a deal with the police.
The restaurant in Sheffield's West Street applied for a 24-hour licence, with plans to serve food and drink between the hours of 23:00 and 05:00.
South Yorkshire Police feared that there could be "issues with those in drink" if it was approved, and urged KFC to close between 05:00 and 07:00.
The council licensing sub-committee said this had been agreed by the firm.
"Our concerns centre around the proposal for 24-hour operation," police originally wrote.
"With the premises being located on one of the busiest streets of the drinking circuit in the city centre and with similar establishments closing earlier, we feel there may be potential for higher levels of custom in the early hours leading to potential issues with those in drink."
A residents group called ChangingSheff had also objected to the plans and said the approval of the application would create a precedent in the city centre, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
However, the application for the late-night refreshment provision was discussed by the city council's licensing sub-committee on Monday and, after a short discussion, it was granted permission.
