Three men cleared of manslaughter over man's death in Sheffield

Three men have been found not guilty of killing a man found fatally injured in Sheffield in 2019.

Arron Hartigan, Jake Lakin, and Callum Rutherford were charged with causing the death of Nadeem Qureshi, 40.

Following a retrial at Sheffield Crown Court, a judge on Monday found all three men not guilty of manslaughter, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of an imitation firearm,

A jury had earlier been unable to reach a unanimous or majority verdict.

It had been alleged that Mr Qureshi, from Manchester, had travelled in a van delivering nitrous oxide canisters to Sheffield on 24 July 2019 when he was run over and fatally injured during an ambush at gunpoint on wasteland in Deepcar.

Mr Lakin, 23, of Laburnum Grove, Stocksbridge, Mr Hartigan, 26, of Meynell Crescent, Sheffield, and Mr Rutherford, 26, of Lee Avenue, Sheffield, had denied all the charges.

Following Monday's verdict, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said no-one else was being sought in connection with Mr Qureshi's death and the investigation was closed.
