Two 14-year-olds have been arrested after people were sprayed with foam from a fire extinguisher in Somerset seaside towns on Easter Sunday.

There were more than a dozen incidents in which passers-by in Brean, Burnham-on-Sea, Highbridge and Weston-super-Mare were sprayed from a passing moped.

Some pedestrians reported being sprayed in the face, while others were targeted as they sat in their vehicles.

The incidents took place between 16:00 and 18:00 BST.

The extinguisher was also sprayed into a supermarket, damaging produce and forcing staff to temporarily close the store.

Witness appeal

At least one person sprayed in the face needed hospital treatment for irritation to the eyes, police said.

The teenagers were arrested on suspicion of five counts of common assault and one of theft from a shop.

They were also held on suspicion of criminal damage, theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

One has since been released on bail, while the second has been released as inquiries continue.

Other potential victims, or anyone with dashcam or doorbell cam footage, is urged to contact Avon and Somerset Police.
