Somerset barn and its contents destroyed by large fire

A barn housing farming equipment and 300 tonnes of hay has been destroyed in a fire which took almost nine hours to get under control.

Six fire engines were called to Langaller Farm in Creech St Michael, near Taunton in Somerset, at about 22:15 GMT on Friday.

Crews said they had the blaze under control by 07:00 GMT on Saturday.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the cause would be investigated.

Avon and Somerset Police and the fire service said they received multiple calls on Friday evening about the fire, which left the barn and its contents "100% destroyed".

Crews were initially sent from Taunton, Bridgwater and Wellington, before being joined by others.

Nathan Brina, from the fire service, said crews arrived to discover a "well-developed" barn fire.

"Crews were quickly able to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings and protect some farm animals on the site," he said.

He added one engine would remain on site to monitor the scene throughout Saturday.

"There is no indication on the cause as yet," he said.
