Repairs carried out on hole-stricken road in Shropshire

Repairs have been carried out on a road in Shropshire after its potholes were compared to deep trenches.

Liberal Democrat councillor Heather Kidd said the state of the road at Marton Hill was so bad, it may have the county's biggest potholes.

Vehicles were getting stuck and damaged, she told BBC News.

The council said repairs to the edges of the road had now been conducted with contractors due to return to repair potholes later this week.

The road on the Shropshire-Wales border heads towards Welshpool in one direction, and the B4386 towards Shrewsbury in the other.

Highways officers said they visited the site on 17 November, after concerns were first raised, with repairs scheduled for 1 February.

Since the site visit, and following the very wet weather, the council said, it appeared agricultural vehicles may have ridden on the verge area and caused a "significant erosion" of the verge opposite the area identified for repair.
