Ludlow M&S supermarket plan to be considered by councillors

Proposals for a new Marks and Spencer (M&S) supermarket in Ludlow that have divided opinion among residents are set to be discussed by councillors.

Planning officers are recommending the store should get the go-ahead, but some of those in the Shropshire town say it already has enough supermarkets.

A council report, due to go before councillors later, has concluded it will have no negative impact.

M&S say the store, earmarked for Sheet Road, will create up to 70 jobs.

The plan has also sparked concerns over increased traffic in the area, especially after a previous scheme was withdrawn over design and highways issues.

The amended application has led to 20 letters submitted in support of the plans and 15 against.

In recommending the scheme for approval, Shropshire Council planning officers said it would not have "significant adverse highway impacts".
