King's Voluntary Award for Shropshire village hall committee
The committee that runs a community centre in Shropshire is among winners of a king's voluntary service award.
The King's Voluntary Service Awards, coinciding with King Charles III's 75th birthday, recognise the hard work done by community organisations in the UK.
They will be presented at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Malcolm Bennett, of Chetwynd and Church Aston Village Hall, said it was "recognition of all the hard work the volunteers have done".
He got involved in the committee in 2017 and said at the time the hall was a "1970s wooden building" with a "car park in an appalling state".
Since then the hall has put on a range of events, including movie nights on large screen they installed.
Fellow volunteer Linda del Manso said: "If you live a community like this you need to be involved in what's going on in the community I think."
She said it was not only a thank you for the volunteers involved, but also for the wider community for using the hall and supporting it.
Other Shropshire recipients, announced on Tuesday, include:
- South Shropshire Engineering Ambassadors, for inspiring young people's interest in engineering.
- The Cavalier Centre, for providing riding for the disabled and personal development programmes.
- Home Start, Telford and Wrekin, for improving the health and well-being of families.
- Clun Valley Good Neighbours Scheme, for supporting vulnerable, lonely and isolated people.
- Telford Crisis Support, for supporting people in poverty in Telford.
- Shropshire Child Contact Centres, for enabling contact between parents and children after family breakdowns.
- Ludlow Cancer Support Group, for supporting those with cancer and the bereaved.
