Plans for 75-bed replacement care home in Shropshire refused
Proposals for a new care home on the site of one which was ordered to be demolished have been refused.
The original Cleobury Hills Nursing Home in Shropshire was knocked down in 2022 after it was found not to have been built in accordance with regulations.
The replacement building would have had space for 75 residents.
But Shropshire Council refused planning permission over concerns it would be overbearing to neighbours.
The proposed home, on High Street, Cleobury Mortimer, did also not include adequate open space for its future residents, the council said.
A statement submitted on behalf of Cleobury Holdings Ltd said the development would contribute positively to the town's identity.
"The proposal will provide high quality accommodation which satisfies the needs and demands of the local area," the statement added.
The plans received objections from 23 people.
Cleobury Mortimer Town Council added there was a "number of concerns" which had also not been addressed during the "previous construction and subsequent demolition."
Planning officers refused the application on three grounds, stating an "unsatisfactory level" of private amenity and open space, concerns over the building's "overbearing impact" and insufficient information on access and transport requirements.
