Farmer rescued driver from burning lorry on A46
A farmer rescued a driver from a lorry fire that caused a major road in Nottinghamshire to be shut.
The driver was thought to have been trapped following the fire on the A46 northbound, near Willoughby-on-the-Wolds, just after 17:00 GMT on Tuesday.
But upon the arrival of crews, the driver was out of the vehicle having been rescued, the East Leake Fire Station team said on Facebook.
The road fully reopened to traffic early on Wednesday.
Due to the ferocity of the flames and the large plumes of smoke, both carriageways were shut.
The East Leake Fire Station team said: "The driver was rescued by the local farmer and was out when we arrived.
"Unfortunately, the lorry was fully involved in fire which had also spread to the middle of the carriageway so further assistance was requested."
Crews from both Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire fire and rescue services brought the fire under control, with the incident scaled down by 21:00.
The road fully reopened to traffic at 03:00 on Wednesday.
