Mary Earps: Nottingham tram named in honour of England keeper

England goalkeeper Mary Earps has had a tram named in her honour in her home city of Nottingham.

The 30-year-old played a major role in the Lionesses' journey to the World Cup final earlier this year.

The 37 trams that serve Nottingham are each named after notable local figures, including Brian Clough, Rebecca Adlington and Vicky McClure.

At a short naming ceremony in the city on Thursday, Earps told the BBC it was a "pinch me" moment.

"It's pretty unbelievable," she said.

"I can't say I ever expected something like this. I'm obviously really proud and I'm so glad I could get back today and unveil the name on the side of the tram.

"I'm very, very grateful."

The permanent honour is the latest accolade for the World Cup Golden Glove recipient, who was named BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2023 in November.
