Nottingham: Eight-year-old girl helps fund gym club defibrillator

An eight-year-old girl has raised more than £2,000 to fund a defibrillator for her gymnastics club.

Tyliyah wanted to make sure the Robin Hood Gymnastics Club, in Nottingham, had the life-saving equipment after hearing about young people having cardiac arrests in sport.

The gymnast set up a fundraising page with help from her parents, and raised more than £1,000 in 10 days.

Her dad Tyrell said he was "super proud" of his daughter.

Tyliyah, who has been doing gymnastics since she was 18 months old, decided to raise money to install a defibrillator after finding out her club did not have one.

She said she was "100% proud" of herself.

"It's an important piece of equipment and it can save somebody's life," she said.

"We definitely need one because gymnastics is a sport as well."

Tyrell said the response to their fundraising page was "amazing".

"Within the first 10 days we hit over £1,000 and it's just been snowballing from there," he said.

"I'm super proud of the young lady that she's becoming and how thoughtful and kind she is for the gymnastics club, and also the local community because this can have a positive effect."

Jemma Wilson, head coach at the club, added: "It's fantastic for us to have it here for the community and the club.

"Having that comfort that we've got that vital piece of equipment right on our doorstep is really good for us."
