Beeston: Plans for new lifts at Grade II listed railway station

Friends of Beeston Station said it was exciting to see the plans in a post on social media.

Plans to install two passenger lifts at Beeston railway station in Nottinghamshire have been submitted by Network Rail.

The application also proposes relocating the staircases between the platforms and Station Road bridge.

A local community group has welcomed the plans after a long-running campaign to make the station more accessible.

Beeston station was built in 1847 and is Grade II listed for its architectural interest.

Network Rail said the new lifts were crucial to make the station fully accessible.

"Given the level of patronage at the station this represents a long-overdue improvement for passengers," it said.

"The logical choice is to link onto the existing road bridge, providing a solution that leaves the important heritage features largely untouched."

Under the proposals, CCTV cameras will be installed to cover the lift areas and two new disabled car parking spaces will be put beneath the road bridge.
