Goose smashes through Nottingham taxi window

It sounds like the quintessential wild goose chase - police called to reports a bird has smashed a taxi window.

But that is exactly what officers in Nottingham found on Monday.

The force posted a picture on social media of the glass-smashing goose perched on passenger seats in the back of the cab in Dunkirk area of the city.

The animal was taken to a vet for a check-up while the unfortunate taxi driver has been left having to cover the costs of the broken window.

In a tweet, police joked the bird may have been trying to get to Nottingham's Goose Fair, an annual event which is taking place this week.

Taxi driver Nayyar Tabasam said he had just dropped off a passenger at university when he heard "this big crashing sound" and found the misguided flyer in the back of his car.

"I thought somebody had thrown something at the car for a start so I slowed down to see if I could see anyone around but there was no-one," he said.

"It was a shock at the time, I didn't see anything as the goose was coming from the side and it made a lot of noise."
