Rescue boat deployed to flooded areas of Northants

A fire service rescue boat has been sent to villages affected by flooding.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) said its boat was sent to the area around Yelvertoft and Stanford on Avon, in north Northamptonshire, on Friday morning.

Firefighters and police officers offered residents advice about flooding.

A motorist who had driven into water in a village near Brackley had to be rescued by fire crews.

NFRS said it had had "a number of calls" about flooding and standing water on roads in the county.

It advised motorists not to drive through standing water and to find alternative routes.

The Brackley crew was called out on Thursday to a car stuck in flood water in Chipping Warden, near Brackley.

A flood warning for Yelvertoft Brook and Clay Coton was lifted at 11:11 GMT, but warnings for Stanford on Avon in the north of the county and Passenham in the south remain in force.

Food alerts have been issued for various parts of the county including areas around Thrapston, Wellingborough, Towcester, Cogenhoe and Wansford.
