A pensioner who started riding e-scooters "out of curiosity" says no one is ever too old "to try new things".

Maria Grimmett, 74, began using the two-wheeled devices operated by the Swedish firm Voi to travel to the shops after seeing them in her home town of Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire.

Voi provides e-scooters and e-bikes to several towns in the county.

"What I like about it is that you don't have to worry about finding a car parking space," she said.

Ms Grimmett said she did not "want to be left behind with technology" and so attended an event promoting how to ride an e-scooter safely.

She said: "We also have robots for delivering shopping where I live and I'm curious about those too. You're never too old to be curious and do new things.

"As long as you can ride a bicycle, you'll be able to ride an e-scooter. There's no extra skills that you need."
