The leader of South Norfolk Council has been made a life peer.

John Fuller, who has served as Conservative councillor for Brooke, near Norwich, since 2003, has become Lord Fuller.

He was elevated to the House of Lords by the King, following his long and successful career in public service, the council said.

Lord Fuller said he would "continue to champion the needs of our county and ensuring our voice is heard".

"I have dedicated the last 21 years to improving life in South Norfolk and the wider county and I am really honoured to have received this recognition," he added.

Lord Fuller is one of 13 new peers, eight of whom were nominated by Rishi Sunak.

The group includes James Jamieson, the Conservative councillor and former leader of Central Bedfordshire Council, and former Wycombe MP Paul Goodman, the editor of news site ConservativeHome.
