Weeting: Dozens of firefighters tackle industrial site blaze

A fire engine is still at the scene of a fire at an industrial site which involved dozens of firefighters at its height.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Weeting, near Brandon, at about 14:00 BST on Thursday.

Fire crews from both Norfolk and Suffolk attended the scene.

The fire service warned local residents to keep windows and doors closed, and witnesses reported on social media seeing plumes of black smoke.

Incident commander Paul Seaman, from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, said it was a "significant fire in a range of buildings".

He said there were 75 firefighters at the scene and anticipated they would be they would be there for a "number of hours".

"The building [on fire] contained a number of building materials, so when the first crews turned up there was a significantly developing fire involving about 50% of the site," he said.

He added the nearby Harvest Centre church had been saved from the flames.

The fire was extinguished and all but one crew left the scene at 02:02.

One engine remains at the scene to dampen down the site.
