Residents' anger as fly-tipping leaves street infested with rats
Residents of a street strewn with rubbish dumped by fly-tippers have said the issue is so bad that the area has become infested with rats.
Bins are overflowing and mattresses have been abandoned on Baguley Crescent between Prestwich and Middleton.
Locals living in the area's 1970s flats told BBC Radio Manchester the street looks like a "war zone" and "nothing was being done about it".
A spokesman for Bury Council said the street was "cleaned every month".
Francesca Estasy, who bought her two bedroom flat on Baguley Crescent in 1992, said the area "looks like a war zone" blighted by dumped "furniture, chairs, sofas, televisions, cookers and also beds".
"I threw something in the bin two months ago and two rats jumped out, it terrified the life out of me, I just screamed".
Baguley Crescent is close to Junction 19 of the M60 between Prestwich and Middleton.
Neil Hare, who lives on the road, said: "Every time someone moves out, they're just dumping beds and fridges outside."
"Nothing's being done about it, I've spotted rats near the bins, it needs sorting out."
There was also concern about the safety of two sets of garages on Baguley Crescent, where the roofs were collapsing and the metal doors had been ripped off.
Francesca Estasy said: "About two years ago, I used to see children playing on the roofs on those garages, it was terrifying."
"One young man fell though, he was lucky not to break his legs".
Natasha Allen said the situation was "terrible", and her home had become "like a dumping ground".
"People are coming in vans at night-time and doing it, so no-one can see, there's mattresses on the floor and there's plenty of rats.
"Rats have even eaten the lino in my flat, it's disgusting round here, the council need to sort it out."
Labour Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment at Bury Council, said: "Baguley Crescent is cleaned every month and the garages will be demolished."
