A double-decker bus lost its roof in a collision with a tree, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police said the bus crashed on Wilbraham Road in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, at about 07:50 GMT.

Witnesses said the roof and upper windows were ripped off the vehicle in the crash outside the Spread Eagle pub.

The force said a cordon had been set up and there were no reports of injuries.

The incident involved the 23 service bus from Stockport to the Trafford Centre, a Stagecoach representative confirmed.

"Safety is our absolute priority and we are working hand in hand with the emergency services to fully assist in their ongoing investigation," she said.
