Stepping Hill Hospital department closed over 'significant deterioration'
A hospital department has closed due to a "significant deterioration of the structure of the building", the trust which runs the site has said.
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said the Outpatient B Department at Stepping Hill Hospital was closed on Thursday following an inspection.
Appointments were relocated across the hospital with affected patients redirected to new clinics on arrival.
The trust said the decision to close the department had been "difficult".
A representative said it was taken because the safety of staff, patients and visitors was of "primary concern".
They said that following an inspection report about the department on 22 November, "we have been made aware of significant deterioration of the structure of the building".
"A decision has immediately been taken to close the building at the end of today," they said.
"We will contact patients for appointments taking place from week commencing 27 November separately with arrangements for their clinics."
They added that the trust was sorry for any disruption caused.
