The parents of a teenage boy who was stabbed to death have pleaded for those responsible to "do the right thing" and "tell the truth".

Kennie Carter, 16, died after being stabbed in the chest in Stretford, Greater Manchester, on 22 January.

Detectives said 14 teenagers had been arrested but there had been no charges.

Kennie's mother, Joan Dixon, urged anyone who could help with the investigation into the death of her "beautiful boy" to come forward.

"It's about doing the right thing because if people don't start doing the right thing now this is never going to stop," she told BBC North West Tonight.

His father Glen Carter added: "It's not about grassing someone up, it's about telling the truth because everyone is heartbroken."

Kennie was fatally stabbed on Thirlmere Avenue at about 19:00 GMT as he walked towards his home in Hulme.

Special Sgt Lauren Whitworth, who was one of the first responders to arrive at the scene, recalled how it "felt like the whole community was already out".

"His family were there when we arrived," she added.

"I remember looking at Kennie and seeing his eyes and knowing this was the end of his life."

Ms Dixon told of her heartache at losing Kennie, who was stabbed around the corner from where they live.

She said: "I used to moan at him all the time 'get out of bed you're wasting your day' but I wish he didn't go out that day.

"I'm not going to see my beautiful boy grow up."

Of 14 teenagers arrested in connection with Kennie's death, police said 10 remained on bail.

As part of the investigation, detectives also want to speak to a witness, a man who was captured on CCTV riding a bike on Thirlmere Avenue at 18:37.

Greater Manchester Police urged him to get in touch and said he was not being viewed as a murder suspect.
