Johanita Dogbey: Man murdered woman in random slash attacks in Brixton
A man is facing life in prison for a series of slasher attacks on strangers which culminated in the random murder of a woman in south London.
Mohamed Nur, 34, was armed with a makeshift blade when he cut the throat of Johanita Kossiwa Dogbey in daylight on 1 May 2023.
Ms Dogbey, 31, was walking in Stockwell Park Walk in Brixton after going into central London to do some shopping.
She was attacked from behind and died at the scene.
A post-mortem examination identified the cause of death as sharp force trauma to the neck.
It can now be reported that Nur previously admitted the murder of Ms Dogbey.
He also admitted having a blade made from scissors on the day he killed Ms Dogbey as well as having another weapon made from broken glass the following day when he was arrested.
The trial at the Old Bailey centred on three other slash attacks, which Nur had denied, two days before Ms Dogbey's death in which the victims all sustained facial cuts.
Prosecution barrister Julian Evans KC told jurors that in each case, the victim "did nothing to confront or provoke" Nur and each was attacked "without warning and for no apparent reason".
Nur, who refused to attend the trial, was found guilty of three charges of unlawful wounding.
He is in custody and will be sentenced on Thursday 23 May.
Judge Angela Rafferty KC said Nur must attend the hearing in person or was likely to be sentenced in his absence.
She said his absences had given rise to "a number of contempt of court offences on the face of it" which would have to be dealt with on sentencing.
Det Ch Supt Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander for Lambeth, said: "Mohammed Nur's heinous actions which culminated in Johanita Dogbey's murder left the local community across Lambeth understandably shocked and in fear.
"Although Nur was arrested just hours after the fatal attack, the impact of his random violence continues to resonate to this day."
