Hampstead man charged over alleged millionaire dating scams

A man who allegedly posed as a millionaire from Monaco to lure women into dating scams across London has been charged.

Ramtin Afsharnejad, 32, of Hampstead, was arrested on Friday and questioned at a west London police station.

On Saturday he was charged with several offences including four counts of fraud by false representation.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday and will next appear at Harrow Crown Court on 15 March.

Mr Afsharnejad has also been charged with three counts of obtaining services dishonestly, one count of disclosing or threatening to disclose private sexual photographs/films with intent to cause distress and with intentional strangulation.

The Metropolitan Police said four women had come forward about the alleged offences, which are said to have happened across north and central London over a four-year period from 2021 to 2024.
