Leicester: Swan released in park after crash landing on car park roof

A swan has been returned to the wild after being rescued from the top of a multi-storey car park in Leicester.

The bird was spotted on the top floor of the NCP Lee Circle car park after crash landing.

Herchran Boal, an RSCPA inspector, attended and took the swan, which she described as "quite a feisty chap", to the charity's Woodside Animal Centre.

The bird was checked over by a vet and released in Braunstone Park.

The swan suffered some minor bleeding after scuffing his feet during the crash landing on 26 March, Ms Boal said.

"He was quite a feisty chap, and wasn't keen on being caught - but once I managed to catch him I took him to the RSPCA Woodside Animal Centre for a vet to check him over," she added.

"Thankfully he was given the all clear and I was then able to release him to a safer environment at a park.

"Strangely this was the second swan in two days that me and my colleagues have rescued in the city centre."

Ms Boal thanked everyone who called the RSPCA and said staff at the car park had been "extremely helpful".

The RSPCA say while swans are strong flyers, they can get themselves stuck if they mistake a roof for a river and crash land.
