Leicester's St George's Day celebrations are to take place in a new location with a revamped format.

The city council said the annual festival on Saturday 20 April would take place in the Old Town area around Leicester Cathedral.

The celebration of England's patron saint was previously held at Orton Square.

Leicester City Council said the final programme was still being finalised but could include re-enactments and stalls.

Deputy city mayor Adam Clarke said: "We've got plans for an expanded festival this year, which we hope will feature a medieval market, heritage films, street theatre and - of course - St George and a dragon.

"In its new home in the Old Town, our St George's Day festival will take place in an area that's rich in history - and we'll also be able to offer a wider range of activities, thanks to our partnership with heritage venues nearby."
