Leicestershire: Ian Curson not guilty of killing girlfriend Caragh Eaton

A man has been cleared of the murder of his girlfriend during an argument.

Ian Curson, 42, was driving away from Caragh Eaton's home in Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire, on 6 September 2022 when she fell, suffering fatal head injuries.

Leicester Crown Court had been shown video footage of a confrontation but Mr Curson had denied striking Ms Eaton while her head was inside his vehicle.

He was also cleared of possessing an offensive weapon.

A trial heard Ms Eaton, 28, died outside her home in Field Edge Drive, Barrow upon Soar.

Video evidence showed the defendant leaving her home in a black Range Rover, and as he tried to drive away, she attempted to stop him leaving.

Several neighbours reported hearing a male voice repeatedly saying "Leave me alone", and after he finally drove away after several attempts, Ms Eaton fell to the floor.

Despite receiving medical assistance from other neighbours and paramedics., she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Curson, of Fairhaven Road, Leicester, had maintained her injuries were caused by a fall.

After deliberating for nearly 14 hours, on Thursday a jury returned a majority not guilty verdict to a charge of murder and a not guilty verdict in respect of possession of an offensive weapon.

Judge Philip Head thanked the jurors for their service throughout the trial.
