Garforth emergency road closure after burst water main causes flood

Drivers have been warned to avoid a busy road in Leeds after a water main burst, causing flooding.

People living in Garforth woke up to their homes being without water due to the issue at the A63 roundabout, near Miller and Carter.

Properties in the LS15, LS25 and LS26 postcode areas were affected at the time, but all supplies had since been restored, according to Yorkshire Water.

Garforth Academy had texted parents to say it would be open as normal.

The eastbound carriageway of the A63 remains closed while repairs are carried out, with photos from the scene showing part of the road having broken up.

A diversion route is in place.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: "We apologise for the inconvenience the closure of a section of Selby Road will cause."

"We will be working as quickly as possible to complete the repairs and to repair any damage to the road surface," they added.

"The damage to the road surface is still being assessed on site."
