Celebrities like George Michael and David Tennant have been transformed into crochet creations by Ms Coverdale

A woman who makes woolly doppelgangers of celebrities and people's late loved ones says she enjoys "bringing a little bit of joy to people's lives".

After first making the crocheted figures in 2020, Ellie Coverdale, 26, from West Yorkshire, says she has now completed about 70.

Ms Coverdale said making replicas of clients' family or friends who had died were the most "touching" to create.

She said she was "honoured to help them remember loved ones with fondness".

Ms Coverdale, who is known on social media as the Yorkshire Knitter, said: "The most memorable reactions tend to be when a customer has commissioned a replica of a loved one they have lost."

It was "really lovely" to see customers' reactions to the finished figures, she added.

She said she had also made replicas of brides and grooms so they could have a keepsake to remember their special day, as well as crocheted versions of celebrities such as George Michael, Dolly Parton and David Tennant's Doctor Who.

Other celebrity creations included Florence and the Machine and The 1975 frontman Matt Healy.

Ms Coverdale said: "I also made a mini replica of an outfit I helped create for Drag Race UK contestant Copper Topp, which they wore on the pink carpet at Drag Con UK 2023."

Ms Coverdale said it took between two to six hours to make each doll, but the length of time depended on the size and level of detail required.

Adding the finishing touches was the part of the process she enjoyed the most, she said.

"The white highlights in the eyes for example really bring the figure to life."

She added: "It's really lovely bringing a little bit of joy to people's lives."
