Rail worker in 'near miss' on West Coast Main Line - investigators
A train travelling at 110mph nearly hit a worker on a track after a misunderstanding, investigators say.
The worker thought the "up fast line" near Euxton Junction on the West Coast Main Line in Lancashire had been blocked to train movements on 14 March.
However, the blockage they had agreed with the signaller applied to the adjacent "down fast line", the Rail Accident Investigation Branch said.
The up fast line remained open, a preliminary examination found.
They said the worker "was involved in a near miss".
