Water returns to Tonbridge after burst main disrupts supply

Water has returned to Tonbridge after supplies were cut off due to a burst water main.

Some areas of the town had no water on Wednesday, including Hillview School for Girls, in Brionne Gardens, which was forced to close.

Andy Beston, regional network manager of South East Water, said repairing the burst main would take "several days".

The company said it was re-routing water within the network.

There had been "a significant burst", said Mr Beston, adding that the company would need to check the road to see how much damage had been created underneath.

The water company would work in conjunction with Kent Highways before reopening the road, he said.

Tom Tugendhat, Conservative MP for Tonbridge and Malling, said on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Tonbridge has woken up with no water today.

"This is after a leak on Sovereign Way was reported weeks ago, but is yet to be fixed, and another springing on Monday."

South East Water said the leak on Sovereign Way - which was not drinking water - was being investigated, but the burst main was the priority.
