More than 600 migrants reached the UK by boat over the weekend, the Ministry of Defence has said.

On Sunday 436 people crossed the English Channel, with another 167 on Saturday.

It is the highest number in a single day since the government announced plans to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda.

So far this year more than 8,300 people have been detected crossing the Channel in small boats.
