Kitten's 'miraculous' rescue from Grimsby drain by firefighters

A cat rescued by firefighters from a drain next to a busy is road is recovering well, an animal sanctuary said.

The five-week-old kitten was spotted last week by a woman driving along the A18 near Grimsby.

She contacted the fire service after she pulled over to help and saw him disappear down a drainage gully.

A crew from Peaks Lane fire station rescued the kitten and handed him over to the Pudz Animal Sanctuary.

Shena Fairless from the South Killingholme sanctuary said the animal, now named Randy, was lucky to survive.

"It was an A road so it was incredibly busy," she said.

"So he had everything against him. It was just miraculous we were able to save him."

Randy was placed with a foster cat at the sanctuary who had a recent litter of kittens and so was able to suckle him.

"He's doing amazingly well," Ms Fairless said.

"He is eating for Britain and he's probably doubled in size since he came to us."

She added that a number of people had got in touch wanting to adopt Randy and he would be "rehomed in a few weeks time".
