A new scout hut is to be built in Healing after more than £730,000 in government funding was secured.

1st Healing Scout Group offers youth services in Grimsby and Cleethorpes for children ages six to 14.

A traverse climbing wall, indoor archery range and large kitchen will be part of the new hut.

The existing scout hut will be demolished with the new building constructed in its place.

Work should start in June this year with the new building to open by January 2025, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

'Dream come true'

Sustainable features such as solar panels and improved insulation will replace the current building, which has damp.

The new hut will also have a larger main hall and a sensory garden.

Helen Watson, chair of 1st Healing Scout Group, said: "Our current facility is no longer fit for purpose. The grant will enable us to build a scout hut to meet the needs of our members and beyond.

"It really will be a dream come true."

A spokesperson for the scout group said it hopes to extend the age range to which it caters, to include children from age four to 18.

During the construction phase alternative provision will be made available for young members.

The grant has come from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's Youth Investment Fund.
