Humberside Airport workers' strike suspended after pay offer
Workers at Humberside Airport have suspended strike action planned for this week as they consider a new pay offer, a union has said.
Employees including firefighters, cleaners and security staff at the site near Kirmington went on strike on 17 October and had planned further action.
Unison members had argued their pay was "significantly lower" than their counterparts at other airports.
The union said the new offer would mean a pay rise of almost £1,900.
It was delivered following talks between the union and airport managers, arranged through arbitration service Acas.
'Positive turn of events'
Unison said a 72-hour strike planned for this week had been suspended.
The union's Yorkshire and Humberside regional organiser Michael Parkinson said: "It's great that the airport's senior managers and the union have shown that they want to resolve the dispute, and as a result a new and improved offer has been put forward.
"The offer will now be put to staff with a recommendation it is accepted.
"Hopefully this positive turn of events can be the start of a productive working relationship between Unison and Humberside Airport."
A spokesperson for Humberside Airport said: "We are pleased that, following constructive talks held with the assistance of Acas, the union has agreed to recommend the pay offer made.
"We look forward to a continued positive relationship with Unison."
