Gloucester's Chambers pub up for lease in city transformation
A popular pub will be put up for lease as part of a £200m urban transformation.
Chambers, in Gloucester, was part of the city centre nightlife for years but has been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
The boarded-up building faces the revamped Kings Square and Gloucester City Council wants to find a business to take it on.
Council leader Richard Cook said it is "key" to the city centre revival.
The new tenants of the 3,500 sq ft space would become part of the ongoing regeneration of Gloucester city centre, alongside the recently-completed Whitefriars development of 43 flats and the soon-to-be finished University of Gloucestershire campus in the former Debenhams building.
Greene King, which owns the building, has the lease until next summer but has been in discussions with the city council over a long-term solution.
Cllr Cook said: "We know that there has been a lot of interest in what will happen to the Chambers pub and quite rightly as it is a key part of the huge £200m regeneration taking place around Kings Quarter.
"We're keen to attract a tenant who will help us take that vision forward and who is as ambitious as we are to make Gloucester a vibrant city, with plenty to offer both the day and night-time economy."
Kings Square reopened last year after undergoing a facelift which includes the reinstallation of water fountains and lighting inspired by the Severn Bore.
The transformation of King's Quarter includes Kings Square, Kings Walk Shopping Centre, new homes, bars and restaurants and a hotel.
It also includes an £107m large 'cyber hub' called The Forum that's expected to create up to 1,500 jobs.
