Wind causes disruptions for c2c and Greater Anglia train users in Essex

Damage caused by high winds has caused ongoing disruption for rail users on selected trainlines on Tuesday.

c2c trains between Barking and West Horndon in Thurrock could be cancelled, delayed or diverted due to damage to the overhead electric wires, according to their X page.

Greater Anglia also said its west Essex services have been disrupted by a fallen tree and overhead line issues.

Commuters have been urged to check their route before they travel.

Overhead line damage due to poor weather also meant there were not any c2c trains between Barking and Upminster.

The weather also caused disruptions to the route on Monday evening and strong winds damaged shop fronts in Chelmsford and a number of homes were affected by power cuts.

A c2c spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for the disruption our customers experienced tonight.

"This was due to the high winds that caused damage to the overhead lines between Barking and West Horndon."

Despite the poor weather, Saturday was the UK's warmest day of the year so far with the mercury hitting 21.8°C at Writtle in Essex - hot on the heels of Aberdeenshire reaching 20.2°C on Friday.
